John Singleton To Direct A-Team Movie?![]()
A movie version of the 80s TV show The A-Team has been in various stages of development for years, but never seemed to get made. Back in September word was that they were tossing everything out and starting all over again. We theorized that the project might be on the verge of following in the footsteps of other long-rumored 80s TV to movie translations like Knight Rider and The Bionic Woman and instead end up being remade back on TV. But for The A-Team, it looks like a plan has finally come together.
LatinoReview claims that director John Singleton will sign up to helm a movie version of The A-Team for 20th Century Fox. Singleton, who once might have been considered to good for this, has long since lowered himself by directing Fast and Furious sequels and other TV to movie translations like Shaft. The guy who made Boyz n the Hood back in 1991 is long gone. Along with Singleton comes a modernized update for the A-Team. The original show was about Vietnam veterans working outside the law to right wrongs using vigilante tactics, Mr. T’s muscles, and really big guns. The new version will update them to vets of a more recent war (Desert Storm perhaps?) and tackle more modern political and social issues. So I guess that means B.A. won’t spend a lot of time beating up teamsters and Texas oil men. |
