We're used to seeing a lot of crossover between video games and movies, but John Woo's Lion Rock Entertainment is about to take it to an entire new level. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Woo and company are preparing to adapt the video game Stranglehold, which itself was based on Woo's 1992 film Hard Boiled.
So it's going to be a movie based on a video game based on a movie... got that? The THR article doesn't make it clear whether or not the movie will be released in theaters, though given that the original film was a hit, this one has a good chance of a solid release. I'm just curious what Woo sees worth doing with the subject matter, and if the video game is really different enough from his original film to be worth doing all over again. Are there video game fans out there who are up to date on both these titles? Or anyone who wouldn't rather see Woo do something more original instead?
