Hunter S. Thompson fans have been waiting for this day for what feels like forever. Johnny Depp and writer/director Bruce Robinson have been working for years to develop a film based on the gonzo journalists' The Rum Diary and while the movie completed production ages ago, a release date was never set. It was strange given the film's incredible cast, which includes Depp, Aaron Eckhart, Richard Jenkins, Amber Heard and Giovanni Ribisi, but still the project was left in limbo. Finally it was announced that the film would be released on October 28th and today Entertainment Tonight premiered the first trailer. Check it out below.

Depp's second time playing the infamous journalist, this time under the pseudonym Paul Kemp, The Rum Diary is loosely based on Thompson's experiences in San Juan, Puerto Rico during the late 1950s. Working for a paper called The San Juan Star, he has regular encounters with reporters who may just be as insane as himself and begins a relationship with a beautiful blonde woman named Chenault. The movie seems to have taken a few steps away from Thompson's original work, but one can only pray that they manage to make it work.
