You may not know who the Jonas Brothers are, and in that case, you’re not 13, and you’ll be mystified by what I’m about to tell you. They’re about to get their own 3D concert movie, and it is guaranteed to be a monster success. You see, these are the guys who tour with Hannah Montana, and when Hannah got her own 3D concert movie in February, it made a shocking amount of money. Disney, not being fools, is aiming to lather, rinse, repeat with their other tween pop sensations. Added bonus: the Jonases are far less likely to pose semi-nude in Vanity Fair.
Variety reports that filming will start this summer, during the brothers’ “Burning Up” tour that kicks off on July 4. Like the Hannah Montana movie, it will feature concerts as well as the personal lives of the three brothers—Kevin, Joe, and Nick. Again, if you are not a pre-teen this information means nothing to you, but all over the country there are squeals of delight echoing in the ears of parents who are dreading going to another one of these things.
It’s interesting that Disney has managed to make such a hit out of 3D, which was a novelty just 10 years ago. Theater owners love these concert movies because they pack theaters for matinees and other times that would normally be slow, and producers love them because they cost so little to make. So really, everyone wins. Except maybe the parents who will be chaperoning the screaming tweens, but hey, that comes with the territory.
