Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth And More Auditioned Today For The Hunger Games
With Jennifer Lawrence all set to star as Katniss in The Hunger Games the studio is finally buckling down to pick the two male actors who will each play her love interests. THR has a rundown of the actors testing today to play both Peeta, the boy sent along with Katniss to fight to the death in the Hunger Games, and Gale, her childhood friend with whom she's had a long-buried attraction.
The most notable names dug up by THR are Josh Hutcherson and Hunter Parish for Peeta-- both actors had previously admitted they were in the running-- and Liam Hemsworth, of The Last Song and Chris's brother, for Gale. The other names are fairly unfamiliar to me, but all have various TV and movie credits; I'll rely on you all to tell me more in the comments about Alexander Ludwig, Lukas Pill, Evan Peters (all three up for Peeta), David Henrie, Robbie Amell and Drew Roy (those three up for Gale).
Notably absent in this story is Alex Pettyfer, the I Am Number Four and Beastly star who previously said he had been approached to play Peeta. Maybe the weeks and weeks of Internet backlash-- plenty of which came from me-- convinced director Gary Ross that Pettyfer was wrong for the part. Or maybe it was Beastly flopping; hopefully some combination of the two.
Today is March 25; one year minus two days from now, on March 23, 2012, The Hunger Games will be released. That means we'll be seeing casting confirmation for Gale, Peeta and the rest of the cast very, very soon. Start the speculation and the wild hopes in the comments!
