Julie Andrews Pulls The Rock's Teeth![]()
Now we're talking. While casting Ashley Judd in the Dwayne Johnson Disney vehicle The Tooth Fairy just seemed a little insulting to a talented actress, bringing in Julie Andrews as the head of the tooth fairy agency seems right on the money. The Hollywood Reporter writes today that Andrews is joining the cast, as the "igh-ranking, acerbic supervisor with the Tooth Fairy Department charged with overseeing Derek's stint as a tooth fairy."
It's hard to imagine Julie Andrews as anything remotely approaching "acerbic," but the role sounds like a hoot anyway. The Reporter also includes more details about the plot than I've read anywhere else, making the whole thing sound even more ridiculous than it has before. Johnson, as we knew, plays a hockey player given the "Tooth Fairy" nickname because of how many other players' teeth he has knocked out (a stretch, don't you think?) When he discourages a young boy's hopes, maybe about the tooth fairy existing, "Derek is ordered to one week's hard labor as a real tooth fairy, complete with wings, magic wand and frilly tutu. Along the way, he rediscovers his forgotten dreams." OK, yeah, it's still basically just a Santa Clause knockoff. But adding Julie Andrews to the cast has earned a lot of good faith from me, so here's hoping this can be the one Dwayne Johnson family vehicle that actually inspires me to see it. |
