The Weinstein Company is teaming up with IFC to push another serial-killer movie. Variety says it’s called Out of the Blue Like most of the ones that aren’t any good, it’s based on a true story. Serial-killers are just more fun as a fantasy. I want my killers wearing human suits and obsessed over chapstick thanks.
The film is based on the life of New Zealand wacko David Gray, a guy who shot and killed a dozen people in his small hometown. I guess the genre twist there is the small town angle, it’s a lot harder to hide out when the sheriff is on a first name basis with all of your neighbors.
Right now they’re planning to release it in theaters this May. The film has already been shown at several film festivals, and received solid reviews. It stars New Zealand native and Lord of the Rings alum Karl Urban, whose last New Zealand film was the incredibly bizarre indie The Price of Milk. If you haven’t seen it… it’s quite an experience.
