Any news involving Kat Dennings is good news. She’s always a breath of fresh air on the screen, and manages to make the audience connect with just about any character. Considering most of her past work falls under the comedy or teen drama category, it’ll be interesting to see how she performs in Michael Golbach’s Daydream Nation alongside Josh Lucas.

She’ll play a disaffected high school senior who ends up in an isolated Canadian hamlet with her widowed father. She assuages her boredom by getting into an affair with a teacher, as well as a more promising intimate relationship with a local druggie.

Okay, so maybe Daydream Nation crosses the teen drama line, but it sounds more serious and demanding than, let’s say, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. In early 2008 there were reports that Hayden Panettiere was the actress cast in the role and, thanks to I Love You Beth Cooper, it’s safe to say Golbach made a serious trade up. The earlier news also pegged Kieran Culkin as L the doped up boyfriend, but the Variety article makes no mention of his involvement.

Shooting began today in Vancouver.
