Kate Hudson is still being allowed to make movies and this year she’ll show up in theaters, at some point, in another one of those films about a dying woman who discovers a new love for life right when she’s about to lose it. The movie’s called A Little Bit of Heaven and though it doesn’t have a specific US release date yet it, Hudson’s newest romance movie will show up in the UK on February 4th.

She’s roped a lot of otherwise respectable names into showing up on film with her. Kathy Bates, Gael Garcia Bernal, Peter Dinklage, Steven Webber, and Romany Malco co-star. Oh and Whoopi Goldberg plays God. Really. You’ll see most of those people, and plenty of Whoopi floating on a cloud, in the first UK trailer for A Little Bit Of Heaven, embedded below:

After sitting through The Four Feathers, Raising Helen, The Skeleton Key, You, Me, and Dupree, Fools Gold, and every other horrible thing Kate Hudson has done since getting noticed in Almost Famous, watching her on screen as she slowly dies of cancer seems like a really good idea. But A Little Bit of Heaven can’t get even that right.

The worst thing about this trailer is that I’m still not sure what it’s about. Cancer is mentioned in an offhand way, but the movie quickly moves on to ignoring it so they can show a lot of smiling pretty people. Is the plot here that Kate Hudson dies and then gets resurrected for a second chance, or is she somehow cured and decides to make the most of her life as a result? The movie’s plot synopsis in our Film Database seems to suggest that neither of those options suggest by the trailer is the case: “It's a comedy about a guarded woman who finds out she's dying of cancer, but when she meets her match, the threat of falling in love is scarier than death.”
