Kate Winslet Discusses Divergent Extermination In New Preview
The latest preview for the feature adaptation of Veronica Roth's Divergent focuses a little bit on the faction system that's in place in this dystopian world, and what it means to be Divergent, which applies to the film's lead character Tris, played by Shailene Woodley. And Kate Winslet offers us some insight into the mindset of those who would prefer to snuff out the Divergent people.
The story is set in the future in dystopian Chicago where society is broken up into five factions, which determine a person's way of life. Divergent begins with Tris (Woodley) learning she's Divergent, which means she won't fit into any one faction. And as the above preview hints, it's not the kind of status people want to brag about. "Divergents are not pure," Winslet explains. "They are ruining the system. And the only way for the system to survive is to exterminate the Divergents."
The preview gives us a behind-the-scenes look at some of the exciting moments from the film, including the train jump, Tris taking the leap off the side of the building, some fight training, the ferris wheel climb and Tris body surfing over a crowd of people.
What we're still not seeing is anything teasing the Hancock Building, which -- without going into spoilery details -- is one of the most exciting moments in the book. But from what Roth and director Neil Burger told us back at Comic-Con, we know that's not being left out. And considering the film doesn't arrive in theaters until March 21, there's still plenty of time to read the book.
In related news, those who want the opportunity to be a part of the first official posters should check out DivergentTheMovie.com/AYD, as they're on the lookout for submitted Vines, GIFs, photos and artwork that explain what makes fans different. The promotion appears to be tapping into the theme of individuality with the book. But since the posters are set to be unveiled next Monday, it seems like time is running out on this opportunity, so if you're interested in participating, you better get on it. Getting fans involved for promotional content kind of reminds me of what Open Road did for The Host teasers.
Finally, those fans who are eagerly awaiting the third and final book in the trilogy, Allegiant, should take a look at the latest sneak peeks at the novel, which is due out next month. There's one particular quote that's uncredited. See if you can guess who's saying it here. In addition to Allegiant, there's also the arrival of the Divergent Bonus book The World of Divergent: The Path to Allegiant, which is is set to be included in the Divergent Series Box Set but will arrive in e-format next Tuesday and promises all sorts of goodies (faction manifestos, Q&A with Roth, book playlists, etc) for those who are counting down the days to the last book's arrive (October 22).
