Putting together a cast that includes Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. is a pretty good start. However, the guys behind The Soloist have done themselves one better by adding the always excellent Catherine Keener to the team. Variety says that Keener will be on set doing that acting thing when the cameras roll in January.
As we noted in August, Foxx is Nathaniel Ayers in the true story of a psychophrenic homeless musician who dreams of playing at Disney Hall in Los Angeles. The script is based on a series of articles written about Ayers by Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez (Downey Jr.) Keener will play Lopez’s editor.
Homeless musicians who dream of concert halls sound like the perfect recipe for feel-goodism run amock. This could be the 2008 version of Radio. Still, it is a pretty decent cast and director Joe Wright is currently kicking critical ass with the upcoming Oscar-bait, The Atonement.
