When you hear that Keira Knightley is going to star in a movie called Silk, your mind probably goes to bad, yet terribly exciting places. Well forget it. Keira Knightley is starring in a movie called Silk, but the title has nothing to do with wearing it and everything to do with it being shot out of a worm’s ass.

The movie will reportedly be her first after finishing back to back filming on the two upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean sequels. It’s based on another bestselling novel that no one has ever heard of. The book is set in the 19th Century and tells the story of a French silkworm smuggler named Herve who journeys to Japan on a worm-finding mission and falls in love with the concubine of a local Japanese baron. Things go along fine until Herve’s wife Helene starts to suspect the affair.

According to multiple sources, Keira will play the most boring part in the above description, that of Herve’s poor wife Helene. Michael Pitt (Dreamers) is rumored to be in the running for the role of Herve, but no one has signed him yet.

So yes, Keira is wrapping herself up in silk, but it sounds like pretty boring silk. Still, the period piece thing seems to have worked well for her with Pride & Prejudice, so we can probably expect to see her doing more and more of it in the future. Let’s hope she doesn’t turn into Kate Winslet… or if you’re a woman you’re probably hoping she does.
