Kevin Kline and Susan Sarandon have signed on to star in a new film about one of Hollywood’s original legends. Killer Films is developing a new indie film titled The Last of Robin Hood, and Kline will be playing the part of an aging Errol Flynn.

Directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland (Quinceanera), the film will center on the final days of Flynn’s life – before he died at age 50 from a heart attack – and the relationship he had with 17-year-old actress Beverly Aadland. It has been said that Flynn began pursuing the girl from when she was 15 and that the two had a loving relationship. Sarandon, according to Variety, will play Florence Aadland, Beverly’s stage mother who “wanted to be a star herself but ended up living vicariously through her daughter.”

The real Florence Aadland previously published a book about Flynn’s affair with her daughter called “The Big Love,” which was performed as a play by Tracey Ullman (who starred as the mother). The trade report doesn’t say if they will be using Aadland’s book for the film.

The next key step is to find an actress to play Beverly Aadland, but that shouldn’t be too hard given the two stars they’ve already managed to snag. Production on The Last of Robin Hood is aiming to begin in January.

Susan Sarandon, who has been just about everywhere in 2012, will next be seen playing multiple roles in the Wachowski Starship/Tom Tykwer epic Cloud Atlas. Kline will next be seen in the comedy Last Vegas with Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas and Morgan Freeman and is attached to Charlie Kaufman’s Frank or Francis.
