Updated: Kevin Smith Has Seen Star Trek![]()
Kevin Smith gets all the breaks. Last week we heard that he’d already seen Watchmen, and now the Clerks director has dropped the bomb that he’s already seen Star Trek as well. Speaking as a geek, I think that officially makes him Vaal, or whatever the Watchmen equivalent of a giant lizard head with godlike powers is.
The guys over at TrekMovie have a source who heard Kevin on a morning radio show at station KROQ. While there, Smith in a roundabout way revealed that he’d seen it, but couldn’t talk about it. Of course, he did anyway, while at the same time doing his best to avoid actually confirming that he’d seen it. Hey, who can blame him. I know a thing or two about the challenges of keeping your mouth shut when you’ve seen something good and want to talk about it. For instance if I’d seen his new movie Zack and Miri Make a Porno, I can imagine I’d be chomping at the bit to tell everyone how funny it is and how relieved I am that it dodged the NC-17. Playing coy, but talking about what must be the new Star Trek Smith says, “Anybody who was worried doesn’t need to be worried–about this film I cannot talk about… It was in very capable hands. The director did a phenomenal job–the director and his crew. Top notch cast and the guy that plays the lead is an instant star. That dude is going to be so famous. He is so wonderful. He picked up a role that I would say is pretty challenging for someone to step into the shoes of, because it is a role that has been played before many times by the same guy.” That sounds like glowing praise to me. Especially for, I think it’s safe to assume that’s who he means, a guy named Chris Pine. Pine is actually worthy of Shatner? I’ll have to see it to believe it. UPDATE!
