Even though the plot of Wolverine is being kept completely under wraps, we’re constantly seeing announcements about this or that buff dude joining the cast. At this point I’m expecting to see thousands of sets of glistening abs doing battle with the clawed one, and every movie writer in the country shouting “See! I told you Jean-Claude van Damme would show up in there somewhere!”

OK, the Muscles from Brussels won’t actually be taking part, but one of his former co-stars will. Moviehole is reporting that Scott Adkins will be joining the Wolverine, playing the mutant Weapon 11, who is sent out to kill Wolverine. Adkins has been part of action movies like Undisputed 2 and The Shepherd: Border Patrol, the second of which starred Mr. Van Damme. Adkins also had a small role in The Bourne Ultimatum.

Clearly a guy sent out to kill Wolverine isn’t going to meet a good end in a movie called, uh, Wolverine, but Adkins seems to have the action credentials to make it a good fight in the meantime. I can’t say I’ll be looking forward to seeing him the same way I am with Liev Schreiber and Hugh Jackman, but hey, a guy who’s been doing straight-to-DVD action movies deserves a break once in a while. Maybe some attempted ass-whuppin’ against Hugh Jackman will do the trick.
