Back in June it was announced that Chloe Moretz, star of Kick-Ass and Let Me In, would star in Hick, a film based on the book by Andrea Portes in which a 13-year-old girl travels from Nebraska to Las Vegas after her parents abandon her. Set to be directed by Derick Martini, I was actually happy to hear nothing about the film in the last five months simply because the some of the books content, including statutory rape, probably shouldn't find its way on screen. Unfortunately, it looks as though the films still happening and has just added another cast member.

The Playlist reports that Kirsten Dunst has signed on to the film. According to the report, Dunst, whose newest film, All Good Things, is due out this Friday, will play a woman named Glenda, a drug-addicted con-artist who takes Moretz's character, Luli, off the road. The story also says that Colin Farrell was in talks for a character named Eddie but was forced to drop the project due to scheduling issues (possibly because of the Total Recall remake). Originally scheduled to begin filming this year, Hick is currently looking to begin production in February of next year.

Until given a reason not to be, I'm will continue to be wary about this project. Moretz has proven herself to be a very talented young actress (Kick-Ass is still one of my favorites of the year) but there has to be a tipping point when it comes to exposing her to content. As long as she's getting advice from the right people and the proper methods are being taken to protect her it shouldn't be a problem, but it's still something that somebody should be concerned about.
