Though she’s never the lead, Kristen Johnson often winds up being the funniest part of whatever movie or TV show she’s in. She was a killer alien on Third Rock from the Sun back in the '90s, got herself killed in a one-episode appearance on Sex and the City, and was the unforgettable Ivana Humpalot in the second Austin Powers movie. She’s proof that leggy and sexy can also be hilarious.
Now she’ll be proving it to us yet again in Bride Wars. The Hollywood Reporter announced that she’ll play a self-absorbed lunatic schoolteacher who works along with Emma, one of the main characters played by Anne Hathaway. In the movie Emma and her best friend Liv (played by Kate Hudson) accidentally plan their weddings on the same day, and instead of working it out like normal people they proceed to freak out and make each others lives miserable.
Johnson is kind of turning into a younger Jennifer Coolidge, excelling at playing hilarious bimbos who steal every scene they’re in. I’m still not too hopeful about Bride Wars, but the presence of both Candice Bergen and Johnson in this movie—who guested on the same episode of Sex and the City incidentally—makes the whole thing seem a bit more tolerable. We all know it’s hard out here for a funny lady, so props to them for doing their jobs the best they can.
