Kurtzman And Orci Pick Up A Zombie Policeman![]()
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are right up their with their pal J.J. Abrams when it comes to taking on a gajillion projects, only about half of which ever seem likely to get made. Though since the duo is becoming more prolific as a producing team, I have high hopes for Xombie, a story about a zombie policeman from a screenwriter policeman, Will Beall.
Xombie apparently has a complex origin story that THR only vaguely explains, starting with an online animated series by James Farr that eventually turned into a Devil's Due comic book. But the movie will only be based on Beall's pitch, given that DreamWorks has picked up the pitch but not the source material (yet). Also, they're keeping the plot under wraps, even though the whole thing has already existed as a comic book. See, I told you it was confusing. THR also tries to claim that zombies are becoming hip like vampires, even though it was the beginning of this decade that saw the Dawn of the Dead remake and Shaun of the Dead and 28 Days Later and zombies galore. It's more like zombies are a boomerang, swinging away in time to give vampires precedence, but coming back now that everyone is just using vampires as metaphors for sex. Those of us who want our supernatural creatures to be killers know that it was all about zombies all along. |
