Larry The Cable Guy is the working man’s comedian, a self proclaimed voice for simpler folk. He’s the loveable, chubby uncle who passes the time at family reunions with sordid tales of muffler explosions and drunken pet accidents. I get it. My mother’s overweight brother beats us over the head every Thanksgiving with liquor induced tales of shooting squirrels off electric wires from his hot tub. I’ll admit, at first, he’s a little amusing in an awkward forced family time kind of way, but at the end of the day, he’s just a self-deprecating oaf who will do anything for a laugh, just like a certain aforementioned slovenly buffoon.
Unfortunately, for myself and every other logic endorsing human being, the American public seems to love Larry The Cable Guy, and they’re about to get a whole lot more of him. The Hollywood Reporter has uncovered a deal green lighting another movie for the middle-aged comedian. The film entitled, Git R Don While I Count Your Ten Dollar Admission, will follow Dan Whitney (yeah, that’s his real name) as he dupes low brow comedy obsessed Midwesterners into handing him money while he makes fart jokes for an hour.
Sadly, that's not really the film. Witless Protection, as the movie is actually called, will see Larry play a small town policeman who uncovers a ring of corrupt FBI agents protecting a witness. Larry The Cable Guy playing a bumbling small towner encountering sophisticated big city corruption? That’s a real character stretch. Witless will also star Joe Mantegna (Airheads) and Eric Roberts (One Way)
Production will begin in late May. No word yet on how many tired clichés will be exploited.
