Because nothing says Christmas like nuclear war and zombie battles, an adaptation of “The Last Christmas” is being planned by one of the producers of 300. Variety says that the graphic novel written by Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan has been purchased by Hollywood Gang Productions. No writers, directors, or actors have been chosen, but Edmund Gwenn, the ultimately movie Santa Claus, is probably dead, so he’s out.
“The Last Christmas” tells the story of a Santa Claus who is drunk and suicidal after a nuclear war and the subsequent murder of Mrs. Claus. Zombies and renegades roam the Earth but there are still survivors who have good in their hearts. Santa leads a final battle between the survivors and the zombies.
Frankly, this sounds pretty lousy. I’m all for playing with the Santa image but this whole drunken, dirty Santa idea is played out. And Santa vs. The Zombies sounds a little too much like Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, and we all know how that turned out.
