The Last Exorcism Sequel Gets A Title, Release Date, Plot Synopsis And First Still

How do you make a sequel to a movie called The Last Exorcism? You pretend that the first film was just the earliest part of a bigger story.

CBS Films has sent out a press release not only announcing that they have acquired distribution rights to the upcoming sequel, but they have also revealed a title, release date, official synopsis and even the first official still. Directed by Ed Gass-Donnelly, the freshly titled The Last Exorcism Part II will continue from where the first movie ended and center on Nell Sweetzer, the young girl played by Ashley Bell in the original (she will be reprising her role as well). The story will start as Nell is discovered alone in the woods and is taken back to civilization where it's revealed that she has lost big chunks of recent memories. The last surviving member of her family, she begins to try and rebuild her life, but then the demon that lived within her returns...

The studio will be releasing the film on March 1st, meaning that it will go up against the R-rated comedy 21 And Over as well as the Bryan Singer-directed fantasy action flick Jack The Giant Killer. It's an interesting move given that the first movie was released in late August where it was able to take advantage of little competition and pull in a $41 million domestic box office take on a $1.8 million budget.
