Either Leonardo DiCaprio drives himself to set each day in an ostentatious automobile, or we’re getting our first look at a prop from Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, currently filming at the Fox Studios in Australia.

DiCaprio reunites with his Romeo + Juliet director to play Jay Gatsby alongside Carey Mulligan (Daisy Buchanan) and Tobey Maguire (Nick Carraway), the latter of which can be spotted in the passenger seat of Leo’s sweet ride. Here are two of the three images, courtesy of ComingSoon:





If anything, we’re seeing rehearsals, as Luhrmann’s riding comfortably in the back (sans camera) as an unidentified man accompanies. No one’s dressed in period garb, but the car certainly fits an eccentric Long Island socialite of the “Roaring” ’20s. But if my Gatsby is right, and it’s been years since I’ve read the novel, Jay drives a yellow Rolls Royce. Release the plot-point hounds!

You know what I love most about the photos? DiCaprio’s hair. Without it slicked back, a la Inception, he looks like a young Jack Dawson (Titanic) or even Romeo, himself. Love that he shaved the goatee, too. Needless to say, Luhrmann’s take on Gatsby has us excited. It looks like the key players are starting to build the pieces for it, but we’re still a long way away from the December 2012 release date.
