Quentin Tarantino is probably best known for taking unknowns or down on their luck actors and making them a household name, but that doesn’t mean he can’t work with established talent. For the villain in his next movie he’s going with a known quantity, and hiring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Word is that Leo is in talks to join the cast of Tarantino’s western Django Unchained. He’ll be Calvin Candie, an evil ranch owner and the proprieter of a sex club in Mississippi where women serve as sex slaves and men fight in death matches. The heroic freed slave of QT’s movie goes there in an attempt to free his wife.

So far the only confirmed member of the cast is Christoph Waltz, set to play the dentist turned bounty hunter sidekick of the movie’s lead. Samuel L. Jackson may be involved as Candie’s valet. Will Smith had been rumored as a possibility for the lead, but so far nothing as come of it. Instead Deadline is rumoring names like Idris Elba and Chris Tucker, but for now it’s all just wild rumor-mongering.

As for DiCaprio, it’s about time he played an epic villain. You get the sense that he's got an iconic, bad guy performance in him somewhere and a Tarantino movie is just about the best a place there is to deliver it.
