Leslie Mann Threatens Paul Rudd's Life In This Is 40 Clip
Writing and directing blockbusters like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up, Judd Apatow has become the king of R-rated comedies. His movies aren't only hilarious, they are also incredibly heartfelt, tapping into modern men and women's biggest vulnerabilities and insecurities, be it their sexual experience, their personal appeal, or their fear of growing up. Next up, he'll tackle growing old.
In This is 40, his spin-off, sort-of sequel to Knocked Up, Apatow brings back married odd couple Debbie and Pete to see how marriage, parenthood and life in general. Paul Rudd and Apatow's real-life wife Leslie Mann reprise their roles as this fiercely funny and frequently feuding pair. The film's first trailer gave us a hint to the marital mayhem the movie has to offer, and a behind-the-scenes clip offered a look at the return of Jason Segel's flirtatious physical trainer. Now the newly released clip belowócourtesy of Yahooódelivers one of the couple's more intimate moments:
It's essentially a fleshed out version of one of the more memorable bits of the trailer, but this murder-centric clip speaks to the core of Apatow's comedic aesthetic. Namely that he's not afraid to delve into those weird emotional moments of relationships. You know, those times with your loved one when you get into a conversation so bizarre you can't help but giggle like an idiot, while realizing that no one would ever get the glee of this discussion should you try to spin it into a party-friendly anecdote. These moments are just for you two. It's this insight into marriage that has me most excited to see Apatow's latest. Though the cast that also includes Melissa McCarthy, Chris O'Dowd, Lena Dunham, John Lithgow and Albert Brooks, doesn't hurt.
This is 40 opens December 21st.
