Less Bubba In Bubba Nosferatu?![]()
Oh, woe is me. Oh, horror of horrors. It appears one of the worst injustices ever put to film is about to happen. Worse than the Wizard of Oz rip-off, Waterbabies. Worse than the upcoming Daddy Day Camp (with Cuba instead of Eddie?). The sequel to cult favorite Bubba Ho-Tep may have someone other than Bruce Campbell in the sequined jumpsuit, if there is a jumpsuit at all.
For those who don’t view Bruce Campbell’s every step with rapt attention (and why don’t you?), Bruce has become quite a bit popular these days. At one point there was even concern over whether he would be putting in an appearance in Spider-Man 3. In recent years Bruce has become an author and a director. His latest project is My Name is Bruce, a film that plays off Campbell’s reputation as people turn to him when a supernatural attack happens in real life – but he’s just Bruce Campbell, you know? The problem with this busy schedule is it removes the possibilities of other projects. Recently Ain’t It Cool News reported of a test screening of My Name is Bruce with a Q&A afterward with the big boomstick carrier himself. During that Q&A it was revealed that Bruce doesn’t know what is going on wit a sequel to Bubba Ho-Tep (tentatively titled Bubba Nosferatu and the Curse of the She-Vampires), other than he knows he’s not involved in it. He’s not involved in it? Does this mean disaster for the sequel, which has suffered everything from the production studio no longer existing to financial woes? Does this mean Don Coscarelli will put someone else in the jumpsuit as old-Elvis, or might the story change so Elvis isn’t even involved? That would be a big shame for people who were hoping to see Paul Giamatti in the role of Col. Tom Parker (a fanboy’s wet dream which Giamatti has admitted he’d like to do). No word has been forthcoming from Coscarelli yet, but hopefully we’ll find out just what this means for the future of Bubba Nosferatu. I’m really hoping this has been a giant mistake and Campbell will be involved after all, although who would know better than Bruce himself? |
