Last fall there was no bigger controversy than the Mel Gibson cameo in The Hangover Part II. Many were outraged about the racist/misogynistic/abusive voicemails that leaked their way online and director Todd Phillips was pressured in to replacing him, which he did when he got Liam Neeson to take over the part. Guess what? That didn't work out as planned either.

Variety is reporting that Phillips, due to story issues, has been forced to cut out the Neeson cameo and has reshot the scene with Nick Cassavetes. According to the story, the scene following the cameo was cut, meaning that more information had to be divulged in the scene with Neeson, requiring reshoots. The problem, however, is that Neeson is currently filming the sequel to Clash of the Titans in London, and won't be available in time. Said Phillips of the situation,
“We were in a complete time crunch so I called up Nick and asked if he would do the part. He came in and crushed it and that is the scene that you will ultimately see in the film. [I’m excited for everyone] to see the film. It turned out great.”
While Cassavetes isn't on the same level of recognition as Neeson, meaning that some people might not appreciate the cameo on the same level, I think that this could still be really cool. Or perhaps Phillips is just trying to trick us and Neeson is actually in the final cut. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
