Liam Neeson is getting set to play other people’s rock and roll. Variety says he’s starring in The Virgin of Las Vegas, a movie based on the popularity of show bands in Ireland in the era before television sets became common. Without TVs to watch, Irishmen went out to watch Irish performers cover early rock and roll songs in live venues.

Oddly enough, given that premise, the movie won’t take place in Ireland. Instead Neeson is set to play an aging show band singer who has moved to Vegas and spends his days soaked in alcohol. His life is “turned on its head following the arrival of a mysterious stranger”. The movie is produced by U2’s Bono. I wonder if this mysterious stranger wears a wide array of flashy sunglasses?
