Another trailer starring Johnny Depp appeared on the internet today but no sign of an eye patch anywhere! Libertine, starring Depp, John Malkovich and Samantha Morton, hits theatres on January 13 and the trailer is definitely intriguing.

I could pretend that I knew the story of John Wilmot previously but I doubt many would believe me. Wilmot (Depp) was the Second Earl of Rochester with a notorious reputation. A well-respected poet and author, Wilmot was also something of a sexual connoisseur as his behavior could make 21st century folks blush at his hedonism. Frankly, he sounds a lot like Scott Gwyn to me. The film follows the Earl's adventures in London, from his passionate romance with a young actress, Elizabeth Barry (Samantha Morton), to the writing of a scurrilous play which blisteringly and bawdily lampoons the very monarch who commissioned it, Charles II (John Malkovich), leading to the Earl's banishment and eventual downfall.

I seriously doubt I would be interested in this if not for Depp. He has reached that point where he could star in an Uwe Boll film and I’d buy tickets for opening night.
