Are we sure this isn’t April 1st? This story just seems so “April Fools Day.”

Comics2Film is claiming to have a scoop from Japanese animation magazine “Animage” that Fox Films is developing a live action Sailor Moon movie. That’s actually not that hard to believe. After all, the franchise is about teenage girls, and was popular five years ago, so that sounds right for Fox.

Apparently they’re trying to court some pretty big names to the film though now that they’ve aquired the rights to the franchise. Joss Whedon (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) is being mentioned as a writer/director the powers that be would like to get involved. That makes perfect sense since Sailor Moon fits in the whole girl-power theme that is prevalent through Whedon’s universe.

However, the really big news is that Fox would like to place Lindsay Lohan and Jennifer Garner in the short-skirted schoolgirl outfits, with Garner playing the villain role and Lohan in the title role.

Now I’m not one for Sailor Moon or anime in general, but Lohan and Garner in Sailor Moon outfits would probably get me to a midnight showing faster than you can say “Moon Prism Power-Make Up!” although, admittedly, it would be a midnight showing in some town where nobody would recognize my face.

Due to the vagueness of the specifics here (“Fox” as opposed to a credited producer), the fact that Lohan seems to be trying to move her career in a more dignified and mature direction, and that this seems more like a fan-fic project on paper, I’m writing this off as speculation… but fun speculation nonetheless.
