Lionsgate sure does have an interesting relationship with Christian audiences. They've minted tons of money off Tyler Perry's movies, which appeal to the church-going crowd with spiritual themes and a glorification of Sunday prayer, and now they're producing The Vatican Tapes, a thriller described as being similar to The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby and, y'know, using the name of the Pope's abode.

Is it a thriller that's deliberately there to piss off Christian audiences, thereby earning more publicity? THR isn't being clear on that-- they offer no plot synopsis beyond calling it a "spooky genre film." But Lionsgate definitely has a handle on the horror audiences thanks to many years of Saw movies so Christians or not, they'll probably find a way to get this to the right audience regardless.
