How do you heat up a spec script bidding war? Attach a young star of the moment who has the hearts (and wallets) of young teen girls in the palm of his hand.

That's exactly what happened with the script for Abduction from relatively unknown Shawn Christensen. Last week we reported that the abs-tastic Taylor Lautner was attached to the project, which apparently led to what Variety describes as a week-long bidding war.

The winner? Lionsgate took home the prize, buying into a chance to dip into the Lautner heartthrob well. This comes just weeks after Lionsgate lost a different bid battle for the rights to the Terminator franchise, a war they ultimately lost to a hedge fund.

Abduction is about a young man who finds a picture of himself as a small child on a web site listing missing persons, a discovery which apparently launches him on a Bourne-type actions/thriller rampage, which will no doubt give Lautner a chance to rip his shirt off a time or two. Lionsgate can probably hear the box office profits rolling in already.
