Could somebody actually be dumb enough to try and make another live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie? Maybe so. The guys over at Slashfilm say they spotted a blurb on the website of Playmate Toys which seemed to indicate as much.
According to Slashfilm, the blurb read as follows: “Following the success of the ‘TMNT’ theatrical release in 2007, Mirage licensing and Imagi studios have begun work on a new live-action TMNT film for 2010. It’s the turtles like you’ve never seen them before! Shellalicious!” Sounds pretty definitive, doesn’t it?
Here’s the strange thing: That quote is no longer on the Playmate site. It now makes no mention of a live-action movie, and merely says they’re exploring the possibility of a new TMNT movie for release in 2010. They make no mention of whether it’s another animated movie or if it’s live-action. To me, animated makes more sense. After the first CGI movie did fairly decent box office business, there was talk that a sequel is in the works. It seems likely that’s still the direction they’ll end up going, despite the nostalgia some of us 80s kids have for those awful, rubber suits.

Wow, OK the story wasnt the best, and it was missing the epic scope it needed, but I thought the animate dmovie was great, well animated and voice acted. I think they finally picked the right direction, they could do better. but to do another live action would be a huge step back. TMNT belongs animated.
