MOVIE NEWS
Live From New York, It’s Sissy Spacek![]()
Saturday Night Live has taken quite a nosedive in the past few years. Just when you think it can’t get any worse, it proves you wrong with more cringe-worthy skits that even an audience of drunks wouldn't laugh at. Though former castmember Jimmy Fallon’s movie career isn’t exactly taking off (to put it mildly), at least the guy was smart enough to jump ship before it completely sank.
Which is why a new story by Hollywood Reporter doesn’t quite have me jumping for joy. 2005-2006 season SNL writers Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer have written a new comedy for Paramount Pictures called Hot Rod; Samberg and Taccone will co-star and Schaffer is making his directorial debut. Naturally, longtime SNL backer Lorne Michaels will produce the project. The good news, since everything else seems sketchy, is that Sissy Spacek (In The Bedroom) is set to star. She is a wonderful actress, and always manages to make movies better simply by being in them. Hopefully her comic chops can cut through the potential muck. Sissy will play the slightly off-center voice of reason to Samberg’s character Rod, a clumsy daredevil who seeks to re-create the unsuccessful jump Evel Knievel made over the Snake River Canyon on a moped. I hope the movie fares better than he did. |
