Lone Ranger Logo Ditches The Definite Article![]()
I was having a conversation last week in which I admitted I can never remember which upcoming movies include a "The" in the title-- something that's important when you're writing articles like this one and have to tag them with the proper title. Is it Captain America: The First Avenger or just First Avenger? Is it Green Lantern or The Green Lantern? Wait, could it possibly be The Thor? It only gets more confusing by the day, and today it's Jerry Bruckheimer throwing me for a loop. On his website he and his team have debuted the logo for the forthcoming Lone Ranger movie adaptation, and they've ditched the "The" that's gone with it for decades, titling it simply Lone Ranger.
You can see the logo below, which is otherwise just a simple sheriff's badge motif; on the site there's also the tagline "The Legend Returns." The Lone Ranger movie has been in development for years now with Johnny Depp scheduled to play Native American sidekick Tonto. Last fall original Pirates trilogy director Gore Verbinski signed on to reunite with Depp and direct, and in December Depp was suggesting that he wanted Brad Pitt or George Clooney to play the Ranger to his Tonto. There's still no telling when the project will actually go into production, though, given the ongoing rumors that fifth and sixth Pirates movies could be going into production within the next year. But still, there's a logo, and with a logo that lacks a definite article there is hope, not to mention frustration for movie writers who never remember to get rid of the "the." Share my pain in this even if you're looking forward to the movie finally existing. ![]() |
