Look Out Tribeca, Here We Come (Again)![]()
For the past two years, I have covered Tribeca Film Festival for CinemaBlend. And since I’ve always had such a blast doing it, I figured hey, why not spend two more weeks of my life watching loads of movies and hanging out with fellow overzealous film junkies. What can I say—it’s a dirty job.
Hollywood Reporter has announced what the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival, now in its sixth year, has in store, and there are quite a few oddities on the agenda. A couple of standouts include Brando, a documentary that has high-profile actors (such as Johnny Depp) sitting around and gabbing about the mumbling star of On The Waterfront; the coming-of-age film The Education Of Charlie Banks, which marks the directorial debut of heavily tattooed Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst; and Numb, a dark comedy starring Matthew Perry (now that “Studio 60” is likely dead and buried, he needs to find further employment, pronto). Let’s not forget my personal favorite eye-grabber, Autism: The Musical. With a title like that, how can you possibly keep a leash on your curiosity? I know I can’t. This year, Tribeca will not have a special New York division, which is something it has kept going since the festival debuted in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. Enough time has passed that the organizers feel this particular category is no longer necessary, as the festival is already molded in its spirit. That should suffice. The beloved Family Festival, where parents can bring their tots to the movies and enjoy the sunshine at an outdoor carnival, will still remain intact. If you weren’t around the site last year when we covered the festival (shame on you!), you can check it out here. For this spring's fest, CB Music writer Brendan Butler will pry his headphones from his ears and help out with the coverage. Tribeca runs from April 25-May 6. We’ll be at the festival, and we hope you’ll be here reading all about it. |
