There aren’t many leading roles for fat, bald guys. But there is one, and some guy named Matt Lucas has gotten it.

British newspaper The Mirror reports that a movie on the life of the master, Alfred Hitchcock is on the way, and this Lucas fellow has scored the role of Mr. Hitch. Lucas is a very young looking thirty-one, appropriate since the movie will focus primarily on Hitchcock’s early life in the East End of London instead of on the interesting part where he hangs out with Grace Kelly and makes some of cinema’s greatest movies.

The film will also co-star Ewan McGregor, which might give it some credibility if not for the tendency of his movies to flop. Star Wars doesn’t count. Who Ewan will play is unknown, but if they want to sell tickets I’d give him a lightsaber.

Matt Lucas on the other hand has done a lot of British television and not much else. He did have a small role in the geek-loved movie Shawn of the Dead, and The Mirror says he’s the star of something called “Little Britain”, which none of us across the pond know anything about. No word yet on if this British Lucas has an affinity for flannel and farting animated characters. He is however, beardless. We’ll keep you advised as this story develops.
