M. Night Shyamalan's Next Film To Be One Thousand A. E. With Jaden Smith
After the disaster that was this past summer's The Last Airbender, nobody believed that M. Night Shyamalan would land a directing gig again. Matters weren't improved when sounds of laughter erupted nationwide whenever his name was shown on screen during the trailer for Devil. Yet, somehow, the man's career keeps kicking and now has somehow wormed his way into Will Smith's brood.
THR reports that M. Night Shyamalan's next directorial venture will be a project called One Thousand A. E. with Smith's Overbrook Entertainment label. Details about the story are being kept under wraps, but apparently it's being planned as a film for Jaden Smith and while there is an adult male role as well, Will Smith will not be taking it. There is one big difference that separates this project from Shyamalan's other work, however: he didn't write the script. Instead, writing duties belong to Gary Whitta, who wrote the Hughes brothers movie The Book of Eli. It's also worth mentioning that the project he was meant to do with Bruce Willis and Gwyneth Paltrow was never able to find financing and was scrapped.
That's right, folks. It appears that Shyamalan's ego may finally be slipping and we may finally get a quality film from him for the first time in ten years. Let's just hope that he doesn't decide that the script isn't good enough and does his own re-write. Perhaps we'll finally get to see how talented a filmmaker he can be when he's not hampered by his own scripts.
