MGM Fights For Rocky

By Lexi Feinberg: 2006-05-18 00:00:00
MGM Fights For Rocky We have a winner! Variety reports that MGM studios has landed Sylvester Stallone’s latest feel-good boxing opus Rocky Balboa, which they will distribute in the United States and Canada. MGM previously released the Rocky series, and scored the deal as part of a three way partnership with Revolution Studios and Sony Pictures.

Rocky Balboa is the next installment of the Philadelphia boxing underdog franchise. Rocky is a lonely guy, retired from boxing and depressed after the grim reaper claimed his beloved Adrian. He runs a small restaurant on his old stomping ground, boring people with stories of his prize-winning past. While he is at the gym, an ESPN sports show runs a simulated fight between him and the current champ Mason “The Line” Dixon, and naturally, Rocky wins. This encourages him to fight “one last time”, or at least, until the next movie is made.

Stallone will write, direct, and star in the film. Will he be able to beat the biological clock and still whoop some ass? If Firewall is any indication for Harrison Ford, then probably not. We'll find out soon if Sly's time is also up.

  1. J.Morgan Says:

it's too bad that Stallone has fallen so far from his humble beginning in the first "Rocky" movie. He wrote the first "Rocky" and many critics had him pinned as the next Brando ala "On the Waterfront." Unfortunately, Stallone opted not to take the role as the terminator in Cameron's famed film, but instead work on another film he wrote and starred in - "Cobra."

After hearing his commentary on the "Cliffhanger" DVD in which he talks about choices he has made in the past and "psychic crossroads," I'm pulling for him.
