Mail Order Groom May Put Fey And Carell Together Again![]()
In spite of the fact that it is being written by the same guy who did Shrek The Third, directed by the guy who did The Pink Panther, and marketed by a lackluster trailer, I have high hopes for Date Night. Why, you ask? Because Steve Carell and Tina Fey provide an hour of actual comedy every week, and that is something hard to come by on television these days. The film isn't out until April, but it now appears the Warner Bros. is willing to invest in its potential success.
According to Pajiba, the company is re-teaming the NBC stars for Mail Order Groom, where Fey will play a lonely and desperate American woman (not exactly a stretch for her) who decides to order an Eastern European soldier (Carell) to be her husband. The article insinuates that there is a completed script for the film, which would start filming in April after Summer hiatus begins, but there is no name given for the writer. While I am curious about what Carell's accent would sound like (if they are anything like Michael Scott's he could be in trouble), if Date Night ends up tanking at the box office and/or with critics there is a chance that the movie will be doomed to spend an eternity on a shelf. Considering Carell's incredible star power, however, it stands a fairly good chance (since breaking out in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, only Dan in Real Life and Little Miss Sunshine failed to eclipse the $100 million mark). At this point, all we can really hope for is that Date Night is actually funny. |
