Man Of Steel Comic Con Poster Plunges Superman Into Darkness

As you may have already read in our extensive liveblog, the upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel unveiled its first footage today at Comic Con, drawing immediate comparisons to the way Christopher Nolan rebooted Batman's story with a darker tone in Batman Begins. Everyone will be able to get a close look at the movie for themselves when the Man of Steel teaser runs in front of The Dark Knight Rises next week, but in the meanwhile, the movie's Comic Con poster has gone online, and yes, it's got plenty of that dark tone to go around too. Take a look below.

If you're not getting a Batman vibe from that poster, you're not seeing the same thing i am. It's so dark you can barely tell that S on his chest is red; you get Henry Cavill's face only in dark silhouette, and the bent head suggests the weight of the world on the shoulders of the alien who vows to protect the Earth. It's a striking image, for sure, and a long way from the bright and shiny version of Superman we've seen onscreen many times. Zack Snyder told the crowd at Comic Con that he's trying to give us a sense of what it would be like to be Superman and from the looks of this, it's really not all that fun.

Man of Steel has a lot of expectations on it as it heads toward its June 14 release next year, and we're getting a clearer picture today of just what's in store. Are you down with this dark take on Superman? Or do you miss the brighter Christopher Reeve days? Let us know in the comments.
