Though the book Enchanted, Inc. was published in 2005, it's going to have a hard time avoiding comparisons to the 2007 movie now that it's being turned into a film. It doesn't help that it's set in New York and involves magic. But Universal will try their luck at getting out from under Amy Adams' shadow, assigning Steven Rogers to write a screenplay based on Shanna Swendson's book.
The story, according to Variety, follows a woman who arrives in New York from a small town, and discovers that the city is full of magic that everyone-- except her, that is-- can tap into. Rogers has previously written screenplays for P.S. I Love You, Hope Floats and Kate & Leopold, which makes him more familiar with the magic of romance than the magic of, uh, magic. But hey, it sounds like the movie could be cute and inoffensive, and maybe if it avoids redheads in big bubbly wedding dresses, it can stand apart from that other Enchanted.
