Those of you bursting at the seams with excitement to see Nic Cage sporting a bad wig and spouting horrible medieval dialogue, prepare yourselves for some disappointment. Variety is reporting that the horror freaks over at Lionsgate have decided to push Season of the Witch from its March 19th opening. A new date has yet to be determined, as execs are still “looking for the best release date.”

Without stating this outright, it’s pretty easy to surmise that this is being done to move the film out of an already crowded weekend, taking it out of competition against Repo Man and The Runaways among others. That, or maybe they just want to push the release back so it premieres closer to July 16th, when The Sorcerer’s Apprentice opens, in order to capitalize on that “Nic Cage in a bad wig” crowd.

Unless they’re going to be doing immense reshoots with Cage, you can still be pretty much guaranteed an almost-scary movie with every bit of tension being ruined by forced dialog and false intensity. There are things that Nic Cage can do, but horror just isn’t one of them. Go see Wicker Man and you’ll understand.
