Mark Wahlberg Confirmed For Seth MacFarlane's R-Rated Ted
Here's a small update to a story we ran a week or two ago, about Mark Wahlberg considering the lead role in Ted the live-action directing debut from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. Deadline has confirmed the story that originated at Pajiba, and add that MacFarlane will be voicing the titular character, a foul-mouthed teddy bear that came to life thanks to Wahlberg's character's childhood wish.
Wahlberg's character is an average Boston guy who's life is completely ordinary except for the fact that his best friend is a cursing, talking teddy bear-- you know, just a minor roadblock. The film is budgeted at $65 million and R-rated, going beyond even Family Guy racy material. Apparently the plan is for Wahlberg to move on to the crime thriller Contraband, an adaptation of an Icelandic film that will co-star Kate Beckinsale, and then on to Ted.
I said it when the news first broke and I'll say it again: Wahberg and MacFarlane both strike me as two guys who think they are far funnier than they really are, so in a way this team-up makes perfect sense-- as the kind of thing I will avoid until given a good reason not to.
