Mark Wahlberg will star and Antoine Fuqua will direct the political thriller The Shooter for Paramount, according to Variety.
Based on the 1993 novel Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter, The Shooter is the tale of an ex-government sharp-shooter who lives in self-imposed exile after causing the death of an innocent person. He is persuaded out of retirement when he is told his help is needed to prevent a presidential assasination, only to be double-crossed and find himself framed for the President's murder. Cue much avoiding of the law while seeking out the truth.
The script was written by Jonathan Lemkin, who also wrote the questionable movies that were Red Planet and Lethal Weapon 4.
All sounds a little "24" meets The Fugitive to me.
