It’s only been a couple of days since M. Night Shyamalan finally talked someone into making his next movie and he’s already scooping up a cast. The guys over at JoBlo say Departed actor Mark Wahlberg is in talks to take the lead role in M. Night’s The Happening.
Mark will play a teacher and struggling musician named Elliott Moore. The movie follows him, his ex-wife, and his daughter as they struggle to survive an epic eco-disaster. You’ll recall, this is the movie that sounds a lot like The Day After Tomorrow, but given the standard M. Night Signs treatment. Suppress your yawns.
I actually have a hard time picturing Wahlberg in an M. Night movie of any type. He just doesn’t seem like an M. Night actor. He’s too buff, too tough, too virile, too frequently pictured shirtless and grabbing his crotch. Night’s movies seem to focus in on older, more matured actors like Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, Paul Giamatti, or William Hurt. Where does Mark Wahlberg fit into that? Or is this a sign that Night really has woken up and decided to try something different?
