I’m getting a little tired of some of these high concept comedies that keep appearing. Whatever happened to just putting out a comedy that didn’t rely on amnesia or a curse of bad luck? Regardless of my opinion, these conceptual plots continue to thrive, with Nailed being the next idea coming along.

The comedy stars Jessica Biel as a small town waitress who gets a nail shot into her head, leading to erratic behavior. At least the movie attempts to be moralistic, as Biel’s character heads to Washington to fight for better healthcare, leading to a romance with a new congressman, played by Jake Gyllenhaal. Think Mr. Smith Goes to Washington with a female Mr. Smith who can get away with weird behavior due to a nail in her head.

The Hollywood Reporter has announced a cast expansion for Nailed, with James Marsden, Catherine Keener, and Tracy Morgan joining the comedy. Marsden will play the small town boyfriend of Biel’s, while Keener will play the self-serving politician type – pretty much the nemesis to Biel and Gyllenhaal’s fight.

Right now it’s unknown what role Tracy Morgan will play, with the part having its details finalized. The suspicion is that he’ll be an injured compatriot to Biel, allowing him to get away with wacky Morganesque behavior too.

For my complaining about the concept, at least Nailed’s cast looks pretty decent. Let’s not forget Gyllenhaal once starred in Bubble Boy however, so he’s not necessarily bringing bigger credentials to the movie as much as returning to his comedic roots. Let’s hope he’s learned something about comedy in the years since he stepped inside the bubble and that Nailed winds up being better than it sounds on paper.
