Fox Searchlight brings Sean Durkin’s Martha Marcy May Marlene to the Toronto International Film Festival next week, making it the third fest stop for this buzzed-about thriller after Sundance and Cannes (where it largely received raves). In preparation for the splashy TIFF premiere, where it will screen as part of the Special Presentations section, the studio has released (via Empire) a longer trailer and teased a gorgeous poster for the film. We have both of them below:

Katey caught up with Durkin’s drama in Sundance, calling it “atmospheric and exceptionally well made.” It stars Elizabeth Olsen, sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley, as Martha, a vulnerable girl who falls under the spell of a potentially evil cult leader (played by John Hawkes). The clip explains the “Marcy May” part of the title. I’m still curious about “Marlene.” And I want Durkin’s film to answer the question that’s posed at the end of the clip, though I’m fairly certain I’ll be terrified by the reveal.

Anyway, Katey’s not alone in her praise. Martha was nominated for the Grand Jury prize at Sundance. Durkin took home that festival’s Directing award. And though it only has nine reviews at the moment, Martha is rocking 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Searchlight plans to open the movie in limited release on Oct. 21. Keep an eye on your local listings to see when Martha reaches your town.
