Martin Scorsese Gets A Star Trek Twist In New Worf Of Wall Street Parody Trailer
It goes without saying that one of the best trailers released last year was the first theatrical preview for Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street. Thumping to the beat of "Black Skinhead" by Kanye West and showing great actors like Leonardo DiCaprio partying hard and living incredibly excessive lifestyles, the trailer was filled with an insane, raw energy that instantly made anyone who watched it want to see the movie. It's great effectiveness and widespread appeal also make leave it wide open for parody, however, and for that you can always count on the internet. That's the origin behind the video you see above, cleverly titled "The Worf of Wall Street," and to its credit it is actually pretty awesome.
Discovered by our sci-fi sister site Giant Freakin Robot and created by YouTube user doubleg1701, the clip is just a bunch of re-edited footage from episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but what's really impressive about it is the way that it really matches the original on the beats that matter. I love the Jordan Belfort-esque monologue at the beginning, the jokes are timed really well (my favorite being the scene where he tells John de Lancie's Q to drop dead) and the singing at the end is a great replacement for the Matthew McConaughey chest thumping.
In case you're not as familiar with the original Wolf of Wall Street trailer, you can watch it below:
But do you know what actually takes this parody even further? The fake "Worf of Wall Street" even has its own poster. It's not made by the same person who did the trailer - instead credit goes to the Tumblr page TheRingTrick, but it's still fun to pair the two.
And that poster, of course, is just a parody of this real one:
This is just one of many Wolf of Wall Street parody trailers, but this is one of the best I've seen. For a different spin, check out the all-female version of the trailer below:
