Is Marvel Studios Delaying Captain Marvel's Big Screen Debut?

Spoiler Warning! The following article possibly includes information about Joss Whedon's The Avengers: Age of Ultron that you may not want to know before you actually get a chance to see the movie. If you don't wish to know any details about the film before you actually get to see the movie for yourself, I would recommend clicking on another one of our site's many, many stories!

There is a very good chance that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to get much, much bigger over the next few years. There are 10 Marvel Studios films announced to come out between now and May 2019, and Studios President Kevin Feige has talked about creating a solid balance between their sequels and original character movies. We can likely expect this expansion to begin with Joss Whedon's The Avengers: Age of Ultron. We already know that the movie is going to feature new characters like Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor Johnson), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and Vision (Paul Bettany), but stirrings and whispers have suggested that the introductions won't stop there. One superhero in particular who has been mentioned and suggested over the last couple of months has been Ms. Marvel a.k.a. Captain Marvel, as she seems a likely candidate to lead Marvel's first female-led solo movie. But while including her in Avengers 2 may have been a part of the plan once, that plan now appears to be in a state of flux.

This new report comes to us from Badass Digest, which begins with some information that you really may not want to know about The Avengers: Age of Ultron (final spoiler warning!). According to the site, the Joss Whedon-directed sequel will end with Captain America (presumably Chris Evans) leading a new team of Avengers that will consist of both faces we've already seen as well as some big surprises. While they don't spill the beans on all of the cameos, one that they single out is Captain Marvel (though she is apparently referred to as Ms. Marvel in the script). The appearance of the character would be included simply to establish the fact that she exists within the Marvel Cinematic Universe... but now the studio is second-guessing their impulse to introduce her in this fashion.

The rumor says that it's looking very likely that Captain Marvel will be getting her own movie at some point during Phase Three, but that the folks making all the decisions aren't sure if dropping her into Avengers 2 would "just be baffling to audiences." That said, it's added that the company is looking to start moving away from origin stories, and introducing a fully-powered Ms. Marvel with a cameo would certainly put the character on a proper path towards making that happen. All the same, it looks like Marvel Studios is looking to nix the cameo idea and hold off on giving the heroine her big screen debut.

What do you make of this situation? Would you want to see Captain Marvel introduced in The Avengers: Age of Ultron with a cameo, or do you think it would be better to wait?
