Those of you horrified by the images of a bulkier Matt Damon for his role in Steven Soderbergh’s The Informant (they’re here in case you’ve somehow forgotten) can take comfort in the first official image from The Green Zone, the latest partnership between Damon and Bourne Identity director Paul Greengrass. Empire Online has the goods, which shows Damon in full-on badass warrior mode—not an extra pound in sight.
Green Zone actually sounds like it will be way more than your average war movie. It’s based on New York Times reporter Rajiv Chandresekaran's book about life in Baghdad’s Green Zone, and features Damon as an American soldier stationed in the area after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. Eventually Damon’s character begins to suspect that the weapons of mass destruction he’s assigned to hunt don’t actually exist, and he goes on an investigation to find the truth. Wait, the government won’t admit there were never any WMDs to begin with, but Paul Greengrass is making a movie based on that very concept? Daring, daring—but I guess with Matt Damon on your side you can get away with just about anything.
